Track and cross country are a great way for your athlete to improve physical attributes such as; strength, speed, agility, running skills, endurance, and body awareness. At Cougar Track we also focus on character attributes such as; sportsmanship, teamwork, patience, perseverance, honesty, integrity, encouragement, commitment, timeliness, and much more.
Cougar Track Club will not hold tryouts, practices, or enter athletes in any meets for the 2016 track season.
A complaint has been filed about the purpose and founding principles of Cougar Track (this statement can be seen on the mission and policy statements tab of this website). After much deliberation, it has been decided to put Cougar Track Club on hiatus for track season 2016, and perhaps longer, depending on the decision of the youth council. It is unfortunate that so many athletes and families will be impacted by this decision, but we feel that it is the only viable option.
What are my options? We do hope that your athletes will wish to continue running, jumping or throwing. If you need help updating USATF memberships to unattached or to another club, let us know. There are a number of options available:
· Athletes may train on their own and enter meets unattached. The track schedule should be determined at the USATF NM board meeting on , and posted to the USATF NM website (http://newmexico.usatf.org/Youth.aspx, when it is updated a 2016 events link will be added) when it is finalized. Meet flyers will be added to the schedule as they are provided by the host teams. Entry information for unattached athletes will be provided on each meet flyer.
· Athletes may join another team. There are numerous other track clubs in town. There is a list on the USATF NM website. If you are interested in another club, you will need to contact the club to find out about practice locations, times, fees, etc. http://newmexico.usatf.org/Clubs/Find-A-Club.aspx
· You may also start a new club. New Mexico and the Albuquerque area could use more clubs. You can find information about applying to be a new club with USATF NM here:http://newmexico.usatf.org/Clubs.aspx
Athletes with a willing attitude, and incredible work ethic, and a desire to be great teammates; parents with a desire to support their athletes and the club in those endeavors; and coaches who go out of their way to support athletes and parents, have been the backbone of the Cougar organization. We appreciate that more than words can say, and hope to continue the legacy of Cougar Track in the future. In the meantime, we hope that you will carry on that spirit of excellence, in attitude and effort, however you may choose to compete.
Team Rule: "Do only that which brings Honor to Yourself, your Team and your Family"
Team Motto: "Reputation is who people think you are and Character is who you are when no one is looking"
Team Motto: "Humble in Victory, Gracious in Defeat"
Team Motto: "The will to win means nothing without the will to prepare"
Team philosophy comes from the famous quote by Pierre de Coubertin who revived the Modern Olympic Games: "The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well."
Team Strategy: ''As one" We win as One, we lose as One, we race as One single force on the field of competition
